1983 – 1987: Assigned to Fighter Squadron (VF) 51 flying the F-14 at NAS Miramar, San Diego, California; he also completed two deployments to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean.

1992 – 1994: Maintenance and Operations Officer, VF-31 NAS Miramar, flying the F-14D Super Tomcat; participated in Operation SOUTHERN WATCH flying over Southern Iraq
