CAREER

1964-1968: MidshipmanUSNAcademy

1968-1971: Flight training

1971-1980:      Completed various Marine Corps assignments (1971-1972)with VMAT (AW)-202; and 121; (1972-1973) flew over 100 sorties during the Vietnamese War whilst assigned to VMA (AW)-533; (1973-1975) a two year tour as a selection an recruitment officer; (1975-1978) various assignments with VMA(AW)-242, H&MS-13, and MABS-13; (1979) graduated USN Test Pilot School;(1979-1980) assigned to the Naval Air Test Center’s System Engineering and Strike Aircraft Test Directorate, Patuxent river, Maryland.

ASTRONAUT ASSIGNMENTS

1980:   (29.05) selected as one of 19 (Group 9) astronaut candidates; (07.07) commenced a one year Ascan training and evaluation programme; Ascan training

1981:   Ascan training; (20.08) completed Ascan training programme as a Pilot candidate; CB technical assignments over next five years included: Systems Development Group; liaison for STS- displays and controls; Flight Data File; CB Safety Officer; SAIL assignments; and Tech Assistant to the director of Flight Crew Ops.
