1980-1986: Attended University of Notre Dame under ROTC programme
1986-1988: Flight Test Engineer for ground launched cruise missile programme
1988-1993: Completed navigator and fighter training at bases in California, New Mexico and Idaho; completed a tour as a weapons systems officer and instructor 20th Fighter Wing, Upper Heyford, England
1993-1994: Completed Squadron Officer School and then the USAF Test Pilot School (Class 94A), Edwards AFB, California
1994-2000: Assigned to 420th Flight Test Squadron at Edwards testing the B-2 Stealth Bomber; (from 1998) assigned to the 46th operations Support Squadron, Eglin AFB, Florida as operations and test weapons systems officer.
