CAREER:                                                                                                                        1979-1989:                                                                                                                         He is a 1979 graduate of the Yeisk Higher Air Force School; served in Russian Air Force as a pilot. Logged over 1500 hrs flying time and has completed over 300 parachute jumps.

COSMONAUT ASSIGNMENTS:                                                                                 1989-1991: (25.01.1989) Joined cosmonaut team (10th AF Section); basic training; (Jan 1991) graduated awarded title ‘Test-Cosmonaut’

1991-1996: (    )  Joined Mir training group; (1994) graduated UNESCO International Center of Instruction System as an engineer-ecologist; Mir training.

1996-1999: (28.08.96-30.07.97)  Assigned BUp Cdr Mir-24 resident crew; Mir resident crew training; (Aug 97) BUp Cdr Soyuz TM-26 (EO-24); (Oct 97 - Aug 98) Mir-26 resident crew training; (13.08.98-28.02.99) flew as Cdr Soyuz TM-28/Mir 26 (4768 hrs 31 min) 2 EVA’s totalling 6hrs 24 min; EVA1 (15.09.98) was a 30 minute IVA; EVA2 (10.11.98) 5 hr 54 min; landed in TM-28.

1999-2004: (Jun 1999-Jul 2000)  Trained on Soyuz TM as ISS contingency crew Cdr (also know as  ISS-Zero Crew), for piossible failed docking of Zvezeda to ISS; (Jul) stood down); (Aug 2000 - Nov 2001) trained as BUp ISS-4 crew commander; (Mar 2002) assigned ISS-9 crew commander; ISS resident crew training; was assigned to planned April 2003 Soyuz TMA-2 Taxi Commander (Feb) cancelled due to loss of Columbia shuttle; (19.04.2004) launched as Commander Soyuz TMA-4/ISS-9 commander; IN SPACE.

2004:   (19.04. – 24.10) flew as ISS-9 CDR, and CDR Soyuz TMA-4; (4509 hrs 16 min); completed four EVAs totalling 15 hrs 45 min; EVA1 (24.06) 14 mins (abandoned); EVA2 (30.06) 5 hr 40 min; EVA 3 (03.08) 4 hr 30 min; EVA 4 (03.09) 5 hr 21 min
