Soviet/Russian Cosmonaut
6th Air Force Selection (1976)
Russian Cosmonaut Aleksandr Volkov completed three long spaceflights in a career which saw missions to both Salyut 7 and Mir space stations during the years of transition from the Soviet Union to the Russian Federation. In the new era of international co-operation Volkov trained, flew or worked in space with crew members from France, Japan, UK, Kazakhstan, Austria and Germany. His legacy in early space exploration continues with his eldest son Sergei who became a Cosmonaut in 1997 and in 2008, became the first ‘son of a space explorer’ to fly in space.
